Life has been busy here at Stones Throw and in the community. With local musicians playing in the taproom nearly every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as Trivia night every first and third Thursday of the month, things are picking up again as we crawl out of the winter months and into spring!
First and foremost, we’re excited to invite everyone in the Fairhaven and Bellingham community to our 1-year Anniversary Block Party! On Saturday, April 1, 2017, Stones Throw has its first birthday and we’re hoping everyone can make it to the party!
The Block Party begins at noon, and we’ll have the street shut down all day and night with the beer garden, live music, and food trucks. The event is of course family friendly and all ages. The live music begins at 2pm, and features three bands: The Honeymooners, The Bushwackers Band, and Stones Throw regulars, the High Mountain String Band. Fairhaven Pizza, Back East BBQ, and Simmering Tava will be serving food.
But that’s not all! Block Parties are a staple to the Stones Throw life, because we love getting together with our neighbors over a beer (or three). We have two more block parties planned this spring: Friday, April 28, we’ll host our Beer Week Block Party, as well as Saturday, May 27, for Ski to Sea. Keep your eyes peeled for more details, as it’s almost Block Party Season!
Recently, Stones Throw was honored to host a Big Boots Brew Day for Pink Boots Society. Led with the help of Janelle Pritchard, a team of women in the local craft beer industry collaborated on a beer recipe and brewed at Stones Throw Brewery on International Women’s Day, Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Take a look at the gallery of photos below from the day!
The team featured women from most of Bellingham’s breweries coming together at Stones Throw to brew a Roggenstein beer, which is a dunkelweizen brewed with rye rather than wheat, has a greater body, and a light finishing hop.
The Pink Boots Society, which founded Big Boots Brew Day, asked all the participating breweries to brew an Ancient/Historical style beer which “contains styles that either have all but died out in modern times, or that were much more popular in past times.” A Roggenbier was chosen with the added method of ‘Steinbier,’ or stone brewing, as a tribute to the Stones Throw Brewery name and logo. The stone heating process adds a more complex flavor to the ale.
Big Boots Brew Day is an annual and worldwide brewing event created by the Pink Boots Society in an effort to take part in International Women’s Day, raise the profile of women in the beer industry and celebrate the part they have played in the industry. The Pink Boots Society was created in 2007 to assist, inspire, and encourage women beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education.
We will release the beer on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 5:05pm during Bellingham Beer Week, so be sure to be here at the right time….after pushing pianos and catching fish at the Dirty Dan’s Festival in downtown Fairhaven. The annual Dirty Dan Harris Festival is a classic Fairhaven celebration, with love music, a chili cook off, 1800's dress contest, and more games. Be sure to be in town for the festivities!
Also going on in the community, our friends at Recreation Northwest have begun the work parties in Fairhaven Park, rebuilding old and worn trails to make the Hundred Acre Woods more accessible to all. We brewed a Pale Ale in honor of this project, and so it is something we always keep an eye on. We love the work everyone is doing, so click here to find out when the next work party is if you are interested in helping build the trails.
See you all at the Block Parties!
